Georgia Lawmakers Visit the CIWC

The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus held its Eradicating Poverty Symposium on the campus of Wesleyan College July 25-26, 2014. Lawmakers from all over the state spent two days on campus in seminars and workshops to discuss ways to better their communities.

On Friday, the delegation visited the Confucius Institute to view the art and artifacts. They were the first visitors to test the brand new Chinese Language and Culture Exploratorium centers, two state-of-the-art, touch-screen panels with applications for learning Chinese language and culture through interactive games and activities. The Exploratorium is available for use by all visitors to the CIWC.

The symposium featured a special lunch education session on Saturday on the Confucius Institute. Provost Vivia Fowler and Emily Jarvis debuted the documentary produced in March about the CI's history and programs for the group and gave a presentation on how the CI can reach the legislators' constituents. The presentation sparked discussion about travel and scholarship opportunities for members of the community and about the benefits of Mandarin language learning in children.
